In the mid-1970s a few “like-minded” enthusiasts who had often met to lament the passing of road and agricultural steam and other relics from the Industrial Revolution formed Burnham Steam & Historic Machinery Club.
From the early days regular monthly meetings were held with invited speakers and members giving talks and presentations on almost any subject imaginable, from all aspects of steam and machinery to the local Air Ambulance service, Bell Ringing, local curiosities and all manner of restoration projects. There were also evening visits to local collections and interesting sites along with social events such as barbecues and an annual Dinner Dance.
In the mid-1970s, when steam rallies were relatively novel, the club held two very successful rallies in the Slough – Maidenhead area. Since then the club played an active role at a number of rallies in the local area e.g. coal carting at Knowl Hill and marshalling duties at Shabbington and Fawley Hill.
